Airplane Mode: Jetset with MAISON de SABRÉ’s Latest Collection
Jet set to travel in style.
MAISON de SABRÉ has quickly become synonymous with quality leather goods, but its latest venture into travel accessories and apparel is something truly special. When I had the chance to speak with Omar Sabré, the brand’s co-founder, about the highly anticipated Airplane Mode collection, I was keen to learn more about the thought process behind it. In true MAISON de SABRÉ style, the new range is as much about function as it is about form—and after our conversation, it’s clear just how much heart and personal experience has gone into every piece.
Omar explained that the collection came from a place of lived experience—his own, to be exact. Over the past three years, he’s travelled more than most, and through his jet-setting prowess, he’s learned all the ins and outs of frequent travel. “The majority of inspiration for our collections really comes from lived experiences,” he told me. “We want to make sure every product is an everyday product—something practical, easy to use, and not too delicate. That’s the whole purpose of the brand: to design elevated, everyday pieces.”

Omar’s travel schedule alone is exhausting just to hear. “My passport’s still got four years left before renewal, but I’ve got no pages left!” he laughed, before going on to describe his whirlwind trips from China to Tokyo, Milan to Paris, with quick stops in Sydney in between. All of this globetrotting has given him a deep understanding of what it means to travel efficiently.
“We wanted to streamline the whole travel experience,” Omar said, with genuine passion. “I’ve spent so much time in airports that I know where most people lose time: checking in, going through security, and waiting to collect baggage. We thought, ‘How can we minimise that?’ So, we designed the collection with carry-on luggage in mind, making sure everything has a dedicated place.”
MAISON de SABRÉ’s latest bags aren’t just chic and sleek—they’re designed to make travel easier. With designated spaces for laptops, cables, and tech kits, you’ll truly breeze through security with minimal hassle. “I only have to take two things out at security: my phone and my laptop,” Omar explained. “Everything else has its place in the bag, and it’s organised so well that putting it all back in is a snap.”

But the collection goes beyond just bags. With this collection came MAISON de SABRÉ’s first foray into apparel, designed with the same focus on ease and efficiency. “When you go through airports with increased security, like in China or the US, you have to take off your shoes, jackets, everything,” Omar said. “So, we designed apparel with easy-to-access pockets, making it simpler to get through security without losing anything.”
I was curious about the process behind designing such a comprehensive collection, especially for a brand known primarily for its leather goods. Omar admitted that stepping into apparel was a challenge. “In all honesty, at the beginning, I really didn’t know what I was doing,” he confessed, laughing. “Designing apparel is completely different from leather goods. Every step was a learning curve—from the fit to the materials, and even the way the garment falls. But we worked with an incredible designer, Alessandro, who guided us through the process.”
Omar mentioned that this ethos also came into play when designing the apparel. “I’m actually wearing one of the jackets today,” he said. “It’s made from technical wool—crease-free, water-resistant, and completely natural. We tested it rigorously to make sure it held up under all kinds of conditions, and it’s the same with every piece in the collection.” When I asked about the possibility of more apparel in the future, Omar didn’t rule it out. “The feedback on the travel uniform has been phenomenal,” he said.

That level of dedication to craftsmanship and quality has always been a hallmark of MAISON de SABRÉ, and it’s evident in the lengths they went to test their new products. From extensive wear-and-tear trials to co-developing a brand-new material called Bio Veg with their Italian supplier, they spared no effort to ensure the collection was not only beautiful but durable. “We even offer a lifetime warranty on our luggage now,” Omar said proudly. “We wanted to be sure that if anything broke, we could replace it, no questions asked.”
What struck me most about Omar’s approach to this collection was the sense of cohesion. Every piece – from the luggage to the travel-friendly clothing – is designed to work seamlessly together. “That was always the intention,” he said. “We wanted to create a complete collection that fits together perfectly for any trip, whether you’re travelling for business or pleasure. It’s all about making life easier while still looking good.”
MAISON de SABRÉ has managed to do what many brands aspire to but often fall short of—creating a travel range that balances functionality with luxury, all while being grounded in real-life experience. Omar’s passion for the project was infectious, and as someone who loves to travel (perhaps not quite as frequently as Omar!), I couldn’t wait to put these designs to the test on my next adventure.
