When I think Ubud, I picture tofu-eating hippies on a meditation marathon at Yoga Barn. But luxury is spreading across the island, and the green soul of Bali is no exception. Enter KClub Ubud.

Tucked north of Ubud (far from the monkey temple chaos) this luxe retreat blends chic modern comfort with traditional charm. With both multi-bedroom villas and Kanva, the adults-only glamping tents, you’ve got options.

I stayed in the sensual infinity pool tent – though this tropical safari suite with a petal-filled outdoor jacuzzi and huge infinity pool over the jungle canopy can hardly be referred to as a “tent”. It’s giving jungle goddess, not Girl Guides.

You’ll be chauffeured to your room and handed over to your personal butler. Switch your brain into the ‘off’ position as your every desire is now just a WhatsApp away – dangerously easy.

Throw on a swimsuit (or not, the jungle’s discreet), order a nasi goreng, crack the minibar, and swing over your private pool. That’s when I started to understand Jane’s choices – Tarzan optional.  The sounds of the jungle and stream below provide the white noise you never knew you needed.

While it’s tempting to stay cocooned in your private oasis, Akar, the on-site restaurant (Bali’s top fine dining spot), is worth a visit.  On Friday and Saturday night the live show, think acrobats and DJs, bring extra kitsch magic.

For daytime action head to Kabana, (the resort pool/restaurant). At the least, swing by for happy hour – complimentary cocktails and seriously good canapés included for guests.

The Spa Mekar? Lush as expected. The spa’s two-storey couple suites are the ultimate romantic indulgence. The post-massage tea and chocolates were Michelin-worthy, and I added their relaxation playlist straight to my Spotify.

There’s also a small gym, open-air yoga, tours on request, and a staff that’s so kind and intuitive, every detail feels personal. Perfect for couples, but I loved every minute solo. A mini staycation here? Say less. Genuinely something special. Go. You deserve this.
