Bikes, Bathtubs & Byron Luxury: A Birthday Escape at 28 Degrees

When all you want is time to unwind, 28 Degrees delivers

For my birthday this year, I wanted to getaway and do something chilled and relaxing. No parties, no packed schedule. Just a little escape, a short plane ride from Sydney, and my bestie by myside. There was only one address that made sense: 28 Degrees Byron Bay.

We only stayed two nights, but honestly? It was exactly the reset I knew I needed.

Tucked away one street from the beach – close enough to walk, but far enough from the buzz of Byron. 28 Degrees feels like your dream Pinterest board come to life. It’s an adult only boutique stay, build for design lovers and anyone who appreciates a line robe moment (yes, we popped ours on as soon as we checked in)

We stayed in one of the Lighthouse rooms. Everything is very considered – from the beeswax candles, house made granola by owner Deb, to ceramics from a local artist, rose marble cabinetry, and course an outdoor bath on the balcony. If you’re staying in Plunge Pool Rooms (part of the hotel’s chic expansion last year), you’ll have your own private courtyard garden and a private plunge pool too.

The expansion was no small update. 28 Degrees quietly doubled its footprint in 2024, adding a whole new wing with five new suits – officially graduating from a guesthouse to five-star hotel. They’ve also added a beautiful three-level Luxury Villa, which I’ve already mentally added to my ‘stay here one day’ list. The whole vibe is slow, quiet luxury. No TV’s, no check-in desk. Just beautifully designed space, kind staff, and a feeling like you’ve stepped out of your everyday life.

The weekend was exactly what I wanted. Slow mornings, free bikes from the hotel (perfect for lazy loops around town for breakie and shopping), an unofficial food tour (long lunch at Rae’s and dinner at Bar Heather were highlights), and sunset cocktails waiting for the total lunar eclipse. Not a bad way to roll into another year older.

Would I come back for another birthday? Absolutely. Next time I am booking 28 Degrees Luxury Villa and bringing more friends with me. Because honestly, slow mornings, bare feet and good company is kind of the dream.
