With a career spanning four decades, Maria Enna-Cocciolone is the truest definition of a trailblazer in the professional beauty industry. As the founder of INSKIN COSMEDICS and creator of three successful professional skincare brands, her influence is woven deeply into the fabric of Australian aesthetics. Her latest launch, INSKIN.CO, is perhaps her most personal venture yet: a brand born from her desire to democratise access to evidence-based, cosmedical skincare.
Driven by the belief that great skin should be accessible to everyone—regardless of skin type, gender, age, ethnicity, or budget—Maria’s latest innovation is built on simplicity, efficacy, and ethical formulation. I was lucky enough to be invited to this landmark launch at The Butler in Sydney, and hear Maria reflect on how the skincare landscape has evolved, what continues to ground her approach, and why INSKIN.CO is her love letter to inclusive, intelligent skin health.

Maria, you’ve spent decades in the skincare industry, leading several iconic professional brands. How has your perspective evolved over the years on what a good skincare lineup should entail?
Good skincare should be grounded in strong, ethical values.
Unfortunately, many consumers don’t know how to tell the difference between a product that delivers real results and one that simply can’t. A big reason for this confusion lies in the grey areas of skincare regulations.
For example, a brand using just 0.001% of an active ingredient can legally make the same claims as a brand using 1%—the clinically backed, functional dose proven to create real change. Yet ironically, if a brand wants to state that their product delivers results based on clinical evidence, they’re often restricted from doing so. Why? Because the claim could be considered therapeutic, requiring TGA approval.

INSKIN.CO is described as your most personal brand yet. What was the moment, or series of moments, that made you realise this was the next chapter you needed to write?
INSKIN.CO is my third baby. My first brand, O COSMEDICS, launched 15 years ago and is now a leading cosmedical brand in Australia. As amazing as it is, it’s not for everyone. As a skin therapist, I would often recommend products that people loved—but not everyone’s skin could tolerate an active range, nor could all customers afford the price point.
It never sat well with me that professional skincare was limited by market segments, budgets, and accessibility. INSKIN.CO was born out of the mission to change that. It’s designed to cater to all skin types, ages, genders, and ethnicities, at a more attainable price point—making effective, evidence-based skincare available to more people.
You’ve emphasised “evidence-based ingredients in functional doses.” What does this mean in practice for INSKIN.CO? Can you share a few standout ingredients?
Every active ingredient we use is backed by clinical studies and proven to work. Unlike brands that include a minimal, ineffective amount of actives, INSKIN.CO uses ingredients at their functional doses—the amount required to deliver real skin transformation.
INSKIN.CO includes 13 products, each brimming with hero ingredients. Some of my favourites are:
- Bakuchiol: A natural alternative to retinol, offering similar benefits without the irritation.
- Niacinamide (Vitamin B3): Strengthens the skin barrier, improves tone and texture, and reduces inflammation.
- D-Panthenol (Vitamin B5): Incredible for calming and soothing the skin.
- Stay-C 50 (a water-soluble form of Vitamin C): Supports skin brightening and collagen synthesis.
Every product is bursting with goodness. I made sure of it.
Simplicity is central to INSKIN.CO, but so is skin health. How did you strike that balance between a minimalistic range and delivering targeted, results-driven skincare?
The key was to formulate targeted products using botanical actives in their functional doses. This allows the skin to respond positively with fewer products and steps, supporting a more streamlined regime.
At INSKIN.CO, we say “Simple, but not basic.” While the regimen might seem straightforward, the formulations are anything but. Each product is specific, intentional, and supports a “less is more” approach to effective skincare.



Can you talk us through your process for formulating the range? What were your non-negotiables?
I drive the creation of all my ranges and work closely with an exceptional cosmetic chemist. Together, we make the magic happen.
We regularly attend supplier meetings and travel to Europe for In-Cosmetics, where we learn about the latest innovations.
As a skin therapist, I know exactly what I want—how the product should feel, how fast it should absorb, the claims it should deliver, and what packaging it needs. My chemist ensures that every formulation is clean, effective, and built for long-term results.
For someone who has seen trends come and go, what skincare truths have always remained constant, and how are they infused into INSKIN.CO?
I’ve seen it all—trends like beef tallow, “glass skin,” and SPF contouring come and go. They often confuse people more than they help.
The golden rule I follow is simple: always trust in skin science. When you understand the skin, you can discern what works, what’s safe, and what’s nonsense.
For example, when I hear someone claim that a “collagen cream will infuse collagen into the skin,” I immediately ask: how? It can’t. The collagen molecule is too large to penetrate the skin and reach the dermis.
