Lottie & Bar Julius Bring Something New to Redfern’s Dining Scene

A rooftop Mexican restaurant and a European-style hotel bar arrive at The EVE Hotel

With the opening of Lottie and Bar Julius, Redfern just got two new dining spots that are set to turn heads. Located inside the brand-new EVE Hotel, these venues come from the team at Liquid & Larder—the same group behind The Gidley and Bistecca—so expectations are high. Whether it’s bold Mexican flavors on the rooftop or a relaxed European-style bar experience downstairs, both spaces bring something fresh to Sydney’s hospitality scene.

Lottie, perched on The EVE’s rooftop, is a mezcaleria and restaurant led by Head Chef Alejandro Huerta (Noma Copenhagen, Pujol) alongside Group Executive Chef Pip Pratt. The menu is entirely gluten-free, blending authentic Mexican flavors with local Australian ingredients in ways that go beyond the usual tacos and guacamole. Pratt’s focus on bold, ingredient-driven cooking complements Huerta’s deep knowledge of Mexican cuisine, creating a menu that feels both refined and exciting.

We have put a lot of emphasis on flavours and spices that are Mexican at their core, to curate dishes that are unique, interesting and ultimately delicious.

Bar Julius sits at street level, offering an all-day menu that moves from breakfast pastries to afternoon martinis. The food leans into European bistro classics with a playful edge, including a reincarnation of the famed #9 in the world Gidley Burger, now reimagined as the Bar Julius Burger — a contender that some say might even rival the original. There’s also the Bar Julius Hot Dog, already making a case as the best in Sydney. And with a ‘no laptops after 5pm’ rule, the space shifts from a relaxed daytime spot to a lively evening bar, where the focus is on cocktails, conversation, and a carefully curated playlist.

With doors now open, these two venues are set to make The EVE a must-visit destination. Whether it’s rooftop margaritas at Lottie or an effortlessly chic bistro moment at Bar Julius, one thing is certain—Sydney’s hotel dining scene just got a serious glow-up.
