Let’s Go, Girls: 9 MECCA Bourke Street Experiences to Try
Beauty lovers, get in formation.

Bourke Street, Melbourne just became home to Australia’s new flagship MECCA retail store (*cries in Sydney*), and it’s a playground for anyone with a makeup bag.
You can see why the beauty-obsessed, the fragrance fiends and the self-care fanatics were queuing at Bourke 3000 from 5am, ready to burst through the doors for their first induction into the realm of radiance. I’m already plotting a south-state pilgrimage purely to bask in its glory.
In the lead-up, I’ve been binging TikTok walkthroughs like they’re a Netflix miniseries (see: Gemma Diamond’s comprehensive seven-part walkthrough) and can confirm this isn’t just a store, it’s an experiential day out. Think: beauty therapy meets heritage architecture meets an art gallery meets a brunch spot that just so happens to stock NARS.
MECCA Bourke Street is what happens when a beauty store decides it’s going to be a wellness sanctuary, fragrance playground, café, art gallery, and heritage landmark… all at once. It’s retail reimagined; dripping in detail, and built for repeat visits. Melbourne, you’re officially the beauty capital now. Sydney, I’m so sorry.
Cue the Shania: Let’s go, girls.
The Apothecary: Wellness, but Make it MECCA
A 220sqm temple to mind-body beauty, the MECCA Apothecary is where your skin, gut health, sleep cycle and “life transitions” get the VIP treatment. It’s all tinctures, droppers and raw ingredients displayed for pure sensory play. There’s naturopathy, acupuncture, crystals, and more than 16 new wellness brands you won’t find anywhere else. Basically, if Goop and Willy Wonka collaborated, it would look like this.
Perfumeria & Scentsorium: A Fragrance Choose-Your-Own-Adventure
Fragrance sommeliers? Space-age scent nozzles powered by AirParfum technology? Only MECCA could. This is where you can experience the notes of oud, leather or citrus in their purest form, then watch a screen recommend perfumes with those exact accords. There’s even a seated area for when the olfactory overload gets real, framed by floor-to-ceiling arched windows and an art deco chandelier situation worthy of your Instagram grid.
The Gifting Box: Wrapping Turned Into an Artform
If gifting was an Olympic sport, this would be the training facility. The MECCA Gift Box level offers engraving, calligraphy, personalised name tags, seasonal wrap stations, and expert advice on “what to give when you’ve forgotten until the Uber is downstairs.” Expect limited-edition merch, furoshiki scarves, and a packaging aesthetic that’s 100% gallery-worthy.

Café MECCA: But First, Coffee (and Croissants)
This isn’t just a caffeine pit stop: it’s a love letter to Melbourne’s food scene. Sip Seven Seeds coffee, bite into a LUNE croissant, or nibble on Madeline de Proust pastries while you browse coffee table books featuring Slim Aarons and Sofia Coppola. Because what’s more Melbourne than a flat white with a side of glossy hardcover?
MECCA Aesthetica: Clinical Meets Luxurious
Nurse-led skin specialists offer advanced facial treatments, from digital skin consultations to LED therapy and targeted clinical care. Bespoke treatments to store include a peel service from Dr. Dennis Gross and a signature Kate Somerville facial for a Californian glow. Whether it’s the glow-up before a big event or a little lunchtime skin reset, this is where science meets spa.
MECCA Beauty Atelier: All-in-One Glam
This is first MECCA where you can have your hair coloured by UK legend Josh Wood, your nails arted-up by Melbourne’s Trophy Wife, and your blow-dry and manicure at the same time. Can you imagine! There’s also make-up services, brow appointments and masterclasses to be booked onsite with the expertly trained MECCA team (300 staff strong). It’s express luxury without cutting corners, and yes, you will leave feeling like the main character.

Luxury Piercing & Jewellery: Have a Maria Tash Moment
Straight from NYC, Maria Tash has landed in Melbourne with her fine jewellery and curated piercing artistry. And as someone who has 19 piercings, this excites me with a ferociously. From delicate diamond studs to statement gold hoops, each piece feels more like a treasure than an accessory, and the ear-styling service will make you rethink everything you thought you knew about piercing placement.
Florals, Forever: Flowers Vasette Takes Over
Melbourne’s most beloved florist has brought an actual cool room of blooms into the store, alongside jaw-dropping arrangements and installations. There’s blooms as far as the eye can see, elevating the space beyond a store to more of an event-like experience. Think: maximalist, photogenic, and almost too pretty to carry home (almost).
Art Everywhere: The Gallery You Never Expected
With 26 artworks by women artists, curated by Charlotte Day, MECCA Bourke Street is as much an art experience as it is a beauty one. From the eight-metre FreelingWaters mural to the chandelier by Bethan Laura Wood and the Sally Ross nail bar pieces, it’s a feast for the eyes (and we’re not just talking about mascara.)
