Refresh Your Space with Styling Tips from Miss Amara

Everything you need for Spring style.

Spring is in the air, and with it comes the irresistible urge to throw open the windows, shake out those duvets, and sweep away the lingering remnants of winter. It’s that time of year when the annual deep clean begins, but why stop at a simple refresh when you could breathe new life into your home?

Instead of splurging on a brand-new set of furniture, consider smaller, smarter updates that can transform a space. A room makeover doesn’t need to mean a new dining set or a complete lounge overhaul. Subtle changes can be just as impactful, and one of the simplest—yet most effective—updates is switching out your rug.

Gone are the days of struggling with thick, unmanageable carpets. Enter Miss Amara’s innovative TUMBLUXE range, offering plush, washable rugs that are as easy to manage as they are beautiful—this is not your grandma’s rug! With just a few simple adjustments, you can transform your winter-worn sanctuary into a light and breezy spring oasis. Just unfold, place, and put your feet up: spring style made effortless.

We sat down with Miss Amara’s in-house designer, Shaye Ford, to get the lowdown on their latest 60+ piece TUMBLUXE collection. With Shaye’s expert insights, you can skip the guesswork and effortlessly find the perfect rug to elevate your spring interiors. Whether you’re after a fresh pop of color or a subtle texture to revamp your space, you can rest assured your Spring switch-up will be a breeze this year (rest being the operative word, we hope).

KT: What are the key trends for Spring 2024, and how can they be incorporated into your home?

SF: Spring is bringing a fresh wave of interior design trends that are focusing on blending sustainability as well still bringing that aesthetic appeal!

We’ll be seeing nature inspired palettes, but not just the neutrals, think lush greens, earthy browns, and soft, sunlit yellows, rich rust tones will be prominent across different textures and substrates.

A huge resurgence of maximalism, think bold patterns and rich textures clashing to make the perfect synergy!  Try mixing and matching patterns, on cushions, rugs, curtains, wallpapers, to create a cosy layered space

We will continue to see the use of organic shapes in our furniture and decor, to create a soft flowing cohesive environment, especially moving into the warmer months, the biophilic design will be back in full force.

KT: Are there any quick changes or small updates that can make a big impact?

SF: Adding nature inspired accents or even a fresh new plant in a sunny spot in your home. Freshening up an old piece of furniture to give it new life, embracing organic shapes by adding in something round or soft like our scalloped range of rugs or adding a round rug to make a space feel a little less rigid! Including handmade pieces into your space, whether that be a locally made artisan vase or a handwoven throw, or even a new piece of art! Adding a delicious new scent will always make a huge impact, think crisp florals with a woody undertone to welcome the warmth.

KT: Spring is often associated with renewal and lightness. How can we achieve a light and airy feel in their home without a complete overhaul?

SF: Achieving a light and airy feel in your home for spring doesn’t require a complete overhaul. Swapping out dark or heavier colours with lighter softer tones of the same colour can really help change up your space! So if you have a navy rug, consider swapping it out for a light powdery blue. Cleaning your windows and changing up your curtains can also bring a sense of more natural light, opt for a soft latte toned sheer over the light blocking drapes you have.

Using lighter fabrics will always make a space feel lighter and brighter, swap out those heavy wool throws for some linen throws in some soft muted colours. A little decluttering always helps the space feel airy – taking a few things off the shelf for a pair back approach. Reflective surfaces always help bounce the light around, so this can be done by adding a mirror, or a glossy side table. Lastly, adding a plant into a sunny corner can always instantly lift the space into the new season!

KT: For those on a budget, what are your recommendations for affordable yet impactful Spring updates?

SF: Updating your home for Spring on a budget can be both enjoyable and impactful. Swap out textiles, or even layer some new textiles! DIY Wall art is always such a good place to make a change. Rearranging furniture for more of an indoor outdoor flow can be liberating for the change in season. Adding a fresh new plant and giving the old one some time outside can be the change you both need! Adding some new small accessories that lean into the warmer months can always make a huge impact. Adding a fresh new scent always makes your home feel alive for the new season ahead.

KT: Can you share any tips on how to bring the outdoors in, blending natural elements with interior décor for Spring?

SF: Think about the colours that surround your home, think about the colour of your soil, the natural trees that surround your property or even the garden in which you have planted, what are the colours and tones of your area?  Bringing in a sage green from the Olive tree that sits on your back deck, or a deep red from the grevillea tree will always bring that indoor outdoor connection.

KT: What role do colour and pattern play in setting the mood in a home, and how can we experiment with these elements?

SF: Colour and pattern are powerful tools in interior design that significantly impact the mood and atmosphere of a home. Adding colour in general will always lift a space but doing so with the correct colour for each space is key! Warm tones will always evoke warmth, cosiness and cheerfulness whilst cool colours in the right space will create a calming and relaxing atmosphere, think bedrooms where tranquility is desired. Adding patterns through textiles, rugs, or wallpaper can inject personality and life into a room.

You can always start small with colour and pattern, by introducing a subtle colour or a faint pattern through smaller items like a cushion, rug or throw or even curtains. Creating a moodboard can always help when you are wanting to pattern clash to make sure the synergy performs well together. When adding colour, think about the colour wheel and how different colours compliment each other. So say if you have a lot of timber in your home, adding blue in colour or pattern can help harmonise the warmth of the timber. Or if you are wanting to create a more saturated space, do so by using the one colour in different tones and strengths to create a space that has depth and layers through colour and pattern.
