Whether it’s finding the perfect early-morning coffee, taking relaxed beach walks with his mini retriever Kobe, or settling in for long Sunday lunches across the water on Waiheke Island, Liam shares five of his favourite spots to eat, drink, and soak up the very best of Auckland.

Takapuna Beach Cafe

One of Auckland’s best cafes, perched right on the beach with epic views of Takapuna Beach and Rangitoto Island. It’s dog friendly and my regular early-morning stop for a coffee, a few HEIREST emails, then a walk along Takapuna beach with my mini retriever, Kobe. It’s become a bit of a ritual.

Cave á Vin

Until recently this was one of Auckland’s best hidden gems. I don’t even drink and I love going there with friends for the cozy atmosphere and excellent food! The natural wine list is expertly curated, the team genuinely know their stuff, and the European-style bistro menu is built for sharing.

Lilian

It’s the best value-for-money Italian in the city and the food is insanely good. It’s the kind of neighbourhood spot in Grey Lynn where you walk in for a quick dinner and end up staying for three courses. And don’t get me started on the lamb ribs – they alone are worth the trip.

Gemmayze Street

Right in the middle of the CBD on Karangahape Road (K Rd, as Aucklanders call it), it’s tucked down an arcade with intimate interiors that make it feel like an escape from the busyness outside. Fresh, healthy and genuinely tasty food, a great spot for a quick solo lunch between HEIREST meetings or to catch up with friends somewhere central.

Poderi Crisci

Cheating a little bit as technically not on Auckland mainland, but Waiheke is the most beautiful island a short ferry ride from the city. Poderi takes the cake for me as it feels like you’re transported to Tuscany, with the most delicious long lunches on a Sunday, incredible local wines and produce, accompanied by 10/10 staff!
