Why You Should Start Using Encapsulated Skincare
Not all formulas are created equal.
Over the past few years, it seems like we’ve tried it all.
From exclusive clinic-only skincare, to ordering MECCA faves online or picking up convenient chemist alternatives on-the-go, the choices are endless when it comes to looking after our complexion.
But are all formulas created equal?
In the ever-evolving world of skincare, innovative breakthroughs constantly emerge, each new offering promising the elusive elixir of radiant, youthful skin. One such innovation that has been gaining momentum in recent years is encapsulated skincare. This revolutionary way of delivering highly potent ingredients—with minimal irritation or damage to the skin—promises targeted and effective solutions for a variety of skin concerns.
To delve deeper into the world of encapsulated skincare and demystify its potential, we got the wrap from Dr. Garry Cussell, visionary Founder of Rejuvaus Skincare & Rejuvenation Clinics of Australia. At the forefront of this emerging forumlation, Dr. Cussell possesses decades of experience and a passion for cutting-edge skincare, and shares with us his insights on encapsulated skincare.
How does encapsulated skincare work?
Encapsulation is a process that binds ingredients together in a form that permits a slower release of a particular ingredient. It is bound in a lipid complex, so that the active ingredients are released slowly and gradually over approximately an eight-hour period.
This prevents a sudden overwhelming of the skin cells and allows use of much more active and stronger ingredients, without any side-effects such as redness inflammation or swelling.
What benefits come from using encapsulated skincare vs. regular actives?
Most skincare formulations in practice only have one or sometimes two active ingredients, and these are often in low strength because sudden release into the skin may be overwhelming and cause reactivity, sensitisation or peeling.
Encapsulation and the slow and gradual release of active ingredient allows the utilisation of much stronger ingredients and higher concentrations with formulation, without any adverse reactions.
It is the reason why in Rejuvaus, we are able to use so many multiple actives in such a very strong and high concentration, also combined with many other ingredients, that are well-tolerated and do not produce any untoward side-effects.
It obviously makes these actives much more effective, due to regular ongoing release throughout the 8 to 12 hours of the daytime, and the 8 to 12 hours of the night-time.
Where does encapsulated skincare fit into your skin routine?
With Rejuvaus products, the most active, but also the most beneficial very strong ingredients are the Vitamin A, Vitamin B and the BHA (Salicylic Acid).
In high concentrations without encapsulation, these can cause significant problems and would be poorly tolerated.
-
- Virtually all the creams and serums in the range have a very high concentration of Vitamin B3 (Niacinamide). This can be applied twice daily without the normal florid redness created by the non-encapsulated form of vitamin B3.
-
- Vitamin A is by far the most powerful and effective single skincare ingredient of all. It is also the most poorly tolerated active ingredient and therefore most skincare companies have to significantly limit the strength and concentration. Thus, they are not getting the maximum benefit out of this very important ingredient.
-
- Rejuvaus use an extremely powerful concentration of 1% Retinaldehyde, which is over 500 times stronger than retinol. Being encapsulated and slow release, it does not cause the usual redness and peeling or even photosensitivity to light and sun, as occurs with all other forms of Vitamin A.
-
- BHA (Salicylic Acid) is extremely important ingredient for everyone’s skin but in most skincare, it is limited in strength, as it can cause significant dryness or stripping of the skin. However, encapsulated salicylic acid, like the one found in the Clarify & Renew Serum, is extremely powerful and high in concentration, and yet has a gentle effect on the skin without causing any of the usual harsh side effects.
Is there an ideal aM/ pm skincare routine that IS recommendED FOR BEST RESULTS?
The answer is yes. Our recommendation for using the Rejuvaus products is that each product can be used singly for a beneficial effect, or combine together with several other creams and serums, even all mixed together.
The reason is that the serums are all blended synergistically, and do not clash with one another, and most importantly, they are suitable for all skin types. That is, they can be used equally effective on an ageing, dry skin, an oily, or acne-prone skin, a pigmented complexion, or even on a sensitive skin condition like rosacea.
We recommend everyone uses a gentle fruit acid exfoliating cleanser, twice daily. Then apply the AHA/BHA serum (Clarify & Renew), together with the antioxidant serums and/or pigment serum and/or the Growth Factor or Collagen Peptide serum. These can be done twice daily, and in the morning should be followed by the i . Solar Protect & Restore serum.
