#PlateItForward Dinner For Two

A meal with a purpose

If we can, giving back and helping those in need is at the top of our priority list. It’s the little guys we want to support and more than ever we all really want to know exactly where our money is going. Although times are tough for many, we’re seeing small businesses collectively step-up and give back to many in need right now.

For example, The Rocks have launched the #PlateItForward campaign, partnering with Sydney Streetlevel Misson, who offer welfare assistance to vulnerable people in the community. A range of restaurants, cafes and retailers in The Rocks, have jumped on board the campaign to offer their support.

Melissa Winnell, Sydney Street Level Mission’s Engagement Coordinator, tells us “We’re delighted to be working with The Rocks and their retailers on this exciting initiative. We’re all going through a tough time, but it’s been wonderful to see us all sticking together and remembering to support those who have really been affected by the current situation. These ongoing meal donations will have a massive impact on our visitors in the local area.”

Living in Sydney? Order a meal over $10 from any one of the participating venues and the venue will be ‘paying it forward’ by donating a second meal to Sydney Streetlevel Misson.

I road-tested two of the venues myself, indulging in a two-course meal from Pony and La Renaissance. Setting up on the balcony, I brought the restaurant to my home for a long afternoon lunch. Starting with mains from Pony Dining, we had Vegetarian Lasagna with a side of wood-roasted carrots and feta, roasted cauliflower with tahini dressing and Italian flatbread with hummus. Finishing up with an apple tart from La Renaissance, all while enjoying lunch over a bottle of Chardonnay from The Lane Vineyard.

The Plate It Forward campaign runs until the 31st May in The Rocks, to check out which retailers are participating see here.
