AAFW: Wrapping up the Runway
All the Resort 25 Collection highlights from Australia's finest at AAFW.
ANNA QUAN
Inspired by the fluidity of water, as seen through the movements and reflections observed by Designer Anna Hoang during a moment of calm amidst Sydney’s bustling CBD.
The collection showcased a meticulous attention to detail, with an array of textures and fabrics to complement effortless silhouettes – crumpled organic textures, a bespoke sea-inspired digital print, natural corozo nut buttons, modern tweed textures, and sea pearl embellishments.
Third Form
Celebrating creativity, innovation, inclusivity, and luxury, ‘re-FORM’ signifies a pivotal moment in the brand’s journey, returning to superior craftsmanship and design. This coming-of-age collection encapsulates the brand’s evolution into the premium contemporary market while underscoring its dedication to diversity and sustainability.
The collection contrasted raw edges and suiting staples with daring cutouts, floral jacquards, and dazzling sequins as models graced the runway at the iconic Carriageworks Gallery III in Sydney. The brand’s renowned crushed satin range, ‘CRUSH’, was also reimagined into new, wearable silhouettes
Albus Lumen
The entire collection is based on all of Albus Lumen’s past collections and archived pieces – reinventing them in a new way by using different techniques. Distressing the garments, colour dying fabric, deconstructing past pieces, and adding new elements. Bringing new life to what is old. TRESemmé partnered with Hair Director of Albus Lumen, Travis Balcke for the Albus Lumen coveted opening show of Australian Fashion Week, to create a series of show stopping hair looks utilising TRESemme’s Pro Collection and new Lamellar range.
Bec + Bridge
For the collection, metal and fabric meet in a symphony of form and function, creating a collection that embodies effortless femininity and strength. Drawing inspiration from the ancient craft of metalwork, designers Bec Cooper and Bridget Yorston have embarked on a journey of transformation, infusing raw materials with new life where they become forged into new objects.
This season, the Bec + Bridge girl has evolved. The core DNA is refreshed with new silhouettes and colourways that elevate her style with a particular energy: modern and refined.
VIKTORIA & WOODS
Exploring the wardrobe of singular woman as she navigates her day-to-day. The collection remained anchored in masterful tailoring and relaxed silhouettes, catering to the full spectrum of her experiences – in work, social engagement, celebration, travel, and rest. Within those same contexts, VIKTORIA & WOODS, made a considered commitment to its male customer, while integrating trendless styling and investment pieces which remain central to the brand’s ethos.
The selection of one of Harry Seidler’s final projects, The Cove Apartments, was a deliberate one. To mirror the brand’s commitment to design, functionality and sustainability, the award-winning building provided an all-encompassing stillness that encourages reflection and an escape the urban hustle of its location and, more broadly, daily life.
Rory William Docherty
Docherty presented 35 looks from his Resort collection. With silhouettes and motifs carried through and updated over the past seasons, Docherty focuses on slow fashion, in both styles and fabrications. His oversized coats, sharp tailoring, soft merino layers and quirky accessories, play with proportions and prioritise natural materials.
True to his brand ethos, the collection encapsulates an array of seasonless pieces for men and women, coming to life through unique fabrications such as metallic foils, crushed Japanese silks, reworked and upcycled denim, and styles of: summer kilts, multi-tie painters shirts, long wide leg shorts, hand embellished shift dresses and metallic sculptured dresses and skirts.
ACLER
This year’s runway showcased the Resort ‘25 collection, a true celebration of the unique design codes Acler has become renowned for; a clean and considered interpretation of femininity, couture inspired techniques and dopamine boosting colour. Feminine silhouettes and striking colours brought a new dimension to each look, elevating the brand with a boldness and freshness.
A play on the collections curved line work, the Birch Bags in the oversized crescent silhouette is the perfect accessory for the girl on the run. The Elford Bag has an organically sculptural vertebrae like handle. This was first hand moulded in clay and scrunched to mimic the vertebrae like shapes seen across Acler’s Resort 25’ jewellery collection.
P.E Nation
The RE/CREATION evolves athleisure by taking cues from classic streetwear shapes and unmistakable sportive fabrications alongside refined silhouettes. An adaptable, muted colour palette dominated by neutrals is met alongside hopeful bursts of Crystal Rose and Sky Blue. Barely there, buttery soft BODYLUXE, seamless and peached fabrications offer ultimate comfort and freedom alongside statement bombers and spray jackets, cargo pants, cropped trousers, skirting, hints of swim, and mounts of layered mesh.
Each piece in the collection has been intentionally crafted to build a cohesive wardrobe evoking a serene yet playful spirit. Meticulous attention to finish and high-quality fabrications ensures a harmonious balance of structure and fluidity throughout the collection, prioritising minimalism alongside a distinct athletic handwriting.
